If you have imminent concerns about a student’s safety or the safety of others, please call Public Safety at 518-783-2999. Please be ready to share any safety concerns you have about the student.
Phone consultations about a student’s mental health concerns are preferred to email consultations for reasons of confidentiality.
We will consult about students anonymously; however, we cannot share any concerns with a student without being able to disclose the source of the information (e.g., “Please don’t tell student X I called, but I wanted you to know she told me about a traumatic experience.”). Students generally are frustrated by anonymous reports and usually can quickly figure out who passed the information.
We cannot confirm or deny if a student is a client at the counseling center without a release of information signed by the student.
Urgent walk-in appointments are available for students during regular business hours. If you are in need of a consultation after-hours about an urgent matter (e.g., suicidal ideation; self-injury; sexual assault; other safety issues), please call Public Safety (518-783-2999) and ask to speak to the on-call Counseling Center clinician.
