Dorothy Miller (Chemistry, '16) and research advisor Dr. Jodi O'Donnell travelled to Boston in August 2015 for Dorothy to present her poster entitled Metalloporphyrin-Based Dual-Mode Colorimetric Sensors at the 250th American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting and Exposition.

Congratulations to recent Siena alumni Alexandria “Ally” Konkol (Biochemistry ’15) and Alexander “Alex” Richard (Chemistry Education ’15) for their recent publication in The Chemical Educator based on their work with Prof. Jesse Karr and Prof. Jodi O’Donnell and in collaboration with Prof. John P. Caradonna of the Department of Chemistry at Boston University. This reports details the synthesis and characterization of a series of transition metal complexes with a near ambient spin-crossover temperature for use as a laboratory experiment for a foundational inorganic chemistry course.

Several Siena College faculty and students were able to attend and present at the 250th American Chemical Society National Meeting and Symposium held in Boston, MA from August 16th-20th. The meeting theme was “Innovation from Discovery to Application” and hosted over 1,550 scientific sessions from invited symposia, poster sessions, special lectures and events, award presentations, workshops, and the exposition.

Siena College recently hosted its third annual Green Chemistry Summer Institute. This free three day workshop brings together more than a dozen high school chemistry teachers from all over New York to participate in discussions and hands-on experiments to broaden their knowledge of Green Chemistry.
