Recent Publication from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Warms Up Spin States of Metals

Recent Publication from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Congratulations to recent Siena alumni Alexandria “Ally” Konkol (Biochemistry ’15) and Alexander “Alex” Richard (Chemistry Education ’15)  for their recent publication in The Chemical Educator based on their work with Prof. Jesse Karr and Prof. Jodi O’Donnell and in collaboration with Prof. John P. Caradonna of the Department of Chemistry at Boston University and Prof. Ellen M. Matson of the University of Rochester.  This reports details the synthesis and characterization of a series of transition metal complexes with a near ambient spin-crossover temperature for use as a laboratory experiment for a foundational inorganic chemistry course.  Konkol, A. J.; Richard, A. J.; Matson, E. M.; Caradonna, J. P.; ODonnell, J. L.; Karr, J. W. "Synthesis and Characterization of Thermochromic Metal Complexes with a Near Room Temperature High-Spin to Low-Spin Crossover." Chem. Educator. 2015, 20, 229–233. (Read the full text here)
