Degrees:

Ph.D. Information Science University at Albany, SUNY
M.S. Accounting University at Albany, SUNY

What I love about Siena:

I enjoy the small classes where you get to know the students personally

My Favorite courses to teach are:

I most enjoy teaching CSIS115, a course I designed in conjunction with Scott Vandenburg to introduce non-computer science students to relational databases

Professional Experience:

Associate Professor of Accounting Siena College 2006 - Now
Assistant Professor of Accounting Siena College 2001 - 2006
Visiting Lecturer of Accounting Siena College 1995 - 2001
Adjunct Professor in Accounting University at Albany, SUNY 1985 - 1995
Senior Accountant Ernst & Whinney 1983 - 1985

My current research:

Research and scholarship focuses on accounting language and the relationship between knowledge of language and the retrieval of information from text databases.

My teaching philosophy:

My philosophy in some ways mirrors the medical school model of "See one, Do one, Teach one", I will explain theory and work out a problem in class, then hand out something similar for students to work out in consultation with other students in the class. I find that having students work on problems together allows them to build on each other’s knowledge and strengths. By listening to their discussions when working out a problem, I find out what is still unclear to the students and can address it in more detail or come at it from a different direction.
