David Brown, who has a 30 year career within the YMCA, is currently the President / CEO of the Capital District YMCA.  Throughout his career Brown has dedicated much of his time and effort toward helping children and teenagers realize their potential as students and members of their communities.  Programs in youth athletics, education and mentoring, and leadership development have been advanced during his involvement. 

He was a founding member of the committee to establish the Capital District YMCA Black and Latino Achievers Program which began in 2004 in Albany, Schenectady and Troy. By hosting its Inaugural Banquet with the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King as the keynote speaker he brought validation and recognition to this program and the YMCA.

Dave earned a Bachelors Degree from Robert Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, and earned a Masters in Business Administration Spring of 2005 from the State University of New York at Albany. 

He has served on a number of Boards both locally and nationally included the City of Albany School District as a member of its Shared Decision Making Committee and is associated with the National Black Child Development Institute and the Association of YMCA Professionals (2009-2011).  Presently, Dave serves on the NBT Bancorp Inc. Board of Directors (2021-present), the Ellis Hospital Board of Directors (2017- present) and the NYS Governor’s Regional Economic Council (2013-present). Mr. Brown is the past chair of Diversity and Inclusion Council for the YMCA of the USA and He is also the past chair of the YMCA of North America Network (2017-2019) which is comprised of the top 70 YMCAs in North America.       

Honors have included being named to the 40 Under Forty Award by the Capital District Business Review and most recently as one of 40 Elite Alumni since 2000 out of 480 past recipients.  In 2006 and 2012 he was the recipient of the New York State Governor’s African American Community Distinction Award, and in 2013 Mr. Brown was recognized by Governor Cuomo receiving the New York State African American Public Service Award. 

Brown lives in Guilderland N.Y. with his wife and four children.
