Housing

If you are moving to New York from another state, finding affordable housing may be one of the most stressful things about relocating. Unfortunately, our program does not provide housing, but we do everything we can to help you along the way.

The good news is that housing in the Capital Region is very accommodating to young professionals and college-age students, although we do recommend that you live with roommates. What we usually try to do is connect all the VISTAs who are starting at the same time prior to their start date. Typically, VISTAs live with each other and look together for housing. The office does have a connection to a realtor that VISTAs have used to find apartments in the area as well. A large majority of our members have found safe, affordable housing in the Pine Hills neighborhood located in Albany—searching for a place to live in this area is a great place to start.

Our VISTAs have also been successful in finding housing through the following sources:

  • Craigslist
  • Zillow
  • Apartments.com
  • Facebook Marketplace
