Carmelo A. Cattano was a patrolman in the Suffolk County Police Department and Guy Cooper's stepmother's first husband. Known as "Scottie" to his family, Patrolman Cattano was serving and protecting his community in the noblest of professions - law enforcement - when he died in the line of duty on May 30, 1963, leaving his wife a widow at the age of 38. The Patrolman Carmelo A. Cattano Scholarship was established by Guy '83 and Donna Cooper to honor Scottie, as well as all law enforcement officers, who have paid the ultimate price while serving and protecting others. The Patrolman Carmelo A. Cattano Scholarship will be awarded to a student(s) with financial need to attend Siena College.
