LTC (R)  Bruce B. Molitor ’69

LTC (R) Robert B. Molitor, graduated from Siena in 1969 with a BS in Economics and was commissioned a 2LT in the Medical Service Corps. He attended the Officer Basic Course at Fort Sam Houston, TX and the Rotary Wing Aviator Course at Fort Wolters, TX and Fort Rucker, AL, earning his flight wings in August 1970. He graduated from the Boston University Overseas Program with an MSBA in Business Administration in 1980 and The Command and General Staff College (EXT) 1983.

In September 1970 Molitor served a tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam as a medical evacuation pilot and supply officer with the 236th Medical Detachment in Da Nang. During his tour he flew 453 combat missions and evacuated 705 patients from the field. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with OLC, Air Medal, 18 awards; Air Medal with V devise for valor; Army Commendation Medal with V devise for valor; Army Commendation Medal; and the Meritorious Unit Citation.

After Vietnam Molitor was assigned to Fort Meade, MD as a pilot with the 212th Medical Detachment. He later held positions in the 85 Medical Battalion as Commander 702nd Medical Company (Clearing) and Battalion S4. He attended the Army Medical Department Advanced Course at Fort Sam Houston, TX in January 1975. He was assigned to the 421st Medical Company in Schweinfurt, Germany in July 1975, where he served as a pilot and Operation Officer. He worked extensively with the German Red Cross providing emergency air evacuation support to American soldiers and their families and the local German population.

He attended the Medical Logistics Management Course at Fort Sam Houston in July 1978 and was awarded the career Management identifier 67K (Medical Logistics Officer). There was a critical shortage of medical evacuation pilots in the Army Medical Department at this time and Molitor was sent to fill a flight assignment with the 431st Medical Detachment, Fort Knox, KY. Other assignments included Chief Property Management at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston; and Commander, 82nd Medical Detachment Fort Riley, KS. His last assignment was with the U.S. Army Medical Material Agency, a field agency of the Army Surgeon General, where he was Chief, Field Services Division and Director, Operations and Support. His expertise, managerial capabilities, and leadership played a major role in accomplishing numerous major Army Medical programs and the fielding of a new generation of Army Field Hospitals, significantly improving the quality of health care. 

LTC (R) Molitor’s other military awards include the Legion of Merit; Master Army Aviation Badge; and the Expert Field Medical Badge. 

After 20 years of military service, Molitor worked for hospitals in Fort Worth, TX. He and his wife Christine have been married for 45 years, have two daughters, Rachel and Colleen; three grandchildren; two great grandsons and reside in Bedford, TX.
