Mr. Robert McCormick was born in the Bronx, the oldest of ten brothers and sisters.  He started his banking career with First National City Bank (Citibank) in 1955 after initially sandblasting ships. He says he took the job in banking to get warm! The business has been very good to him. Starting as a Messenger, he advanced to Vice President of Commercial Lending with Citibank.

In 1972, Citibank relocated Mr. McCormick and his family to the Capital District. They quickly became fond of the area, and, in 1977, he changed jobs to remain here, moving to Schenectady Trust Company (now Trustco Bank) as a Vice President of Lending. He saw great opportunity at Trustco, advancing to President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman. Mr. McCormick's era at Trustco has been an incredible success, with impressive increases in shareholder value and asset growth. TrustCo Bank today operates 95 branches and offices in New York State, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida. He remains a most active Chairman.

Mr. McCormick loves upstate New York; he has been very generous supporting a wide variety of causes in our community. He is very proud of and close to his family. He resides in Menands, New York, with his wife Anne. He has two sons; Tom, married to Susan, and Rob, married to Lynn. He has five grandchildren - Tommy, Kara, Danny, Robert, and Maggie, whom he adores.

Siena College is honored to award Robert A. McCormick, a most distinguished leader of the banking industry, the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science.
