The Baldwin Nursing Department was created thanks to a gift from Thomas J., Jr. '81 & Laurie (Kowalczyk) '80 Baldwin. Nursing is a large part of both Tom and Laurie's life as both of their mothers were nurses, and their daughter and daughter-in-law are currently nurses.
“Nurses really are the heartbeat of our healthcare system,” Laurie Baldwin said. “They are the people who are at the bedside, hour after hour, caring for patients and advocating for their needs. For them to further their education not only benefits the nurse, but the patients as well, and so we are extremely pleased to support this new program.”
The Baldwins don't view nursing as a job, they see it as a vocation. The opportunity to develop a nursing program at Siena and provide an outlet for students to pursue their call to the nursing profession means a great deal to both the Baldwins and their mothers.
Thomas Baldwin said, “Finding innovative ways to provide a first-class education that is accessible for students at all stages of their lives is a hallmark of Siena College, and the once-a-week schedule that has been created for working RNs is a perfect example.”
This program has been developed in honor of their mothers and commemorates the impact these two women had on the lives of the people they have served.
