Health Professions Advising

The health professions advisor assists all students (current and alumni) interested in health professions fields by providing them information about the professions and helping them through the process of applying.

Elizabeth Brookins, Ph.D. is Siena's Health Professions Advisor. She provides information about careers in the health professions and assists students in achieving their career goals. Brookins oversees twelve cooperative programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry and podiatry. Her specific responsibilities include: 

  • Advising students considering careers in the health professions
  • Assisting students in selecting schools compatible with their aspirations and credentials
  • Assisting students in the application process
  • Monitoring the application progress 
  • Acting as a liaison between the candidate and the professional schools

Dr. Brookins also assists all students throughout their educations at Siena in the following areas:

  • Answering student questions
  • Course selection
  • Articulation and Agreement programs (see articulation link for the list of all 17 programs) 
  • Admissions tests- Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), Dental Admissions Test (DAT), Optometry Admissions Test (OAT), Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) and the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  • Centralized application systems
  • Writing letters of recommendations for applicants
  • Informing students of timelines 
  • Interviewing skills
