The Writing Center staff works with writers making the transition from high school to college-level work, students whom English is a second language, students continuing their education, students in upper-level undergraduate courses, masters students, professors, staff, and administrators. We understand that writers never outgrow the need for intelligent, objective readers.
Our tutors are prepared to talk about writing with writers from any field of study. We read research papers, academic essays, resumes, cover letters, formal reports, applications for graduate school, fiction, poetry, and much, much more. Some of our staff are trained in scientific writing and are available to work with writers on lab reports and scientific research.
Our main goal is to help writers become more self-reflective and self-sufficient in terms of their own writing practices, which generates and sustains "better writers" rather than "better writing". The staff at the Writing Center responds to writers and their writing in respectful and knowledgeable ways and facilitates intellectual and emotional development and support in a professional, yet compassionate learning environment.
