Course Description

Critical exploration of roles and techniques used by individuals, NGOs, governments and the public and corporate sector to further sustainable development in rural areas of developed and developing countries. SOCI385 (CRN 41608) or ENVA305 (CRN 42630)

Travel Dates: March 8-16, 2014
Cost: Approximately $2700/person
Length of Trip: 9 days

Itinerary at a Glance:

  • Arrive in Edinburgh.  
  • Visit the Royal College of Agriculture and Rural Development.
  • Visit Experimental Farms and Rural Development Research Stations.
  • Meet with Scottish Academics, Policy Makers, Rural Community Members.
  • Travel north to Aberdeen and then by overnight ferry across the North Sea.
  • Arrive in the Shetland Islands 1/2 way between Scotland mainland and Sweden.
  • Return by overnight ferry to Aberdeen and spend last day back in Edinburgh.
