Research Technician - Biology Department
Siena College is accepting applications for the position of Research Technician in the Biology Department of the School of Science. The Research Technician will work with Siena students studying how cells regulate signaling via cell surface receptors that transmit signals from hormones and neurotransmitters. Current projects investigate the interaction between G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) kinase 2 (called GRK2) with receptor both in intact cells and in vitro.
Qualifications: Position requires a B.S. in Biology or Biochemistry (or a similar field), and the following coursework: Cell Biology, Protein Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry. Familiarity with cell signaling and physiology/pharmacology will be helpful. Experience with at least some of the following techniques is required: protein gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting, protein purification/column chromatography, tissue culture, enzyme kinetics, kinase assays, microscopy, radioimmuneassays, heterologous expression of proteins in bacterial, mammalian and insect cell, polymerase chain reaction, and subcloning (DNA gel electrophoresis, DNA purification, E. coli transformation, DNA analysis).
Duties also include lab ordering, equipment maintenance, performance of biological, chemical and radiation safety activities. Technician will be working on group projects with undergraduate students and thus, position requires flexibility, teamwork and strong communication skills. Necessary computer skills include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and some familiarity with molecular modeling software, public literature databases and bioinformatics.
