Class tour of Price Chopper Distribution Center

Siena students from Distribution Management class, accompanied by assistant professor of marketing Michael Pepe, toured the Price Chopper Distribution Center on Monday, November 5. The tour allowed students to observe and understand warehousing and transportation functions that reinforced essential components of the Distribution Management course. Key aspects of the tour that students learned about included: 

  • Key marketing metrics to assess warehousing and transportation functions
  • Facilities layout, inbound and outbound freight processes, and information technology
  • Transportation efficiencies involving gas procurement, freight lanes, leasing versus ownership tradeoffs, and reverse logistics
  • Customer service fulfillment-expectations and accommodations 

The overall experience was beneficial to students and supported the mission of the School of Business as a student-centered learning community. Special thanks to Bill Bishop, Director of Warehousing, and Dave Schmitz, Director of Transportation, for conducting the three hour tour.
