old Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy

The Franciscan spirit of service with and for others is part of what makes Siena College unique among liberal arts colleges.  Rooted in the Franciscan tradition of service for others, especially the less privileged, and informed by Catholic Social teaching, the Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy challenges all members of the Siena community to study and respond to the issues of justice, peace, and care for the environment in our community, in our nation, and throughout the world.

The Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy is the campus hub for volunteering and service projects.  We partner with over 120 local service agencies, area schools, and other non-profit organizations in the Capital Region.  Individuals can volunteer once or twice a semester on a particular project, or for semester or year long programming, and/or with academic service learning courses which combine classroom instruction with hands on experiential volunteering.

Volunteer

The Franciscan Center provides opportunities to be involved in agencies throughout the Capitol Region.  Join any of our clubs including the Siena Mentoring Program or the Red Cross Club!

Serve

A variety of events planned by the FCSA will be available for signing up.  The Calendar of Events provides a full schedule of service opportunites and potential learning experiences.

Learn

A minor in Franciscan Service and Advocacy can be added to any major available.  This minor includes courses such as environmental politics, literature of peace and justice, social work, and more.  Credits can also be earned through internships and volunteering!

Build a Future

Service learning is known for developing skills that employers search for in a job candidate, and there are post-graduate service fairs that will provide various service feild opportunities after graduation.
