Message to Seniors
Dear Prospective Graduate,
Welcome to Commencement Week 2012! We would like to express my congratulations on your forthcoming commencement. Siena is looking forward to a most memorable weekend for you, your family, and guests.
The Commencement Ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Times Union (TU) Center next Sunday, May 13, with the Academic Procession starting at 9:45 AM. The ceremony will last until approximately 12:45 PM. YOU are to assemble in the Exhibition Hall of the TU Center at 9 AM, by School; members of the faculty will be there to assist you in preparing for the procession.
To assist with your arrival on time, the College is providing transportation to and from campus that day – you are most strongly encouraged to “ride the bus.” The Yankee Trails buses will depart from two locations on campus (Kiernan Hall / Chapel Parking Lot and Parking Lot near the Townhouses / Public Safety & Maintenance Building) from 8:15 - 8:40 AM, as they fill. THE LAST BUS will leave Siena at 8:40 AM. Resident and commuter graduates are welcome. Family members and other guests have been advised to arrive by their own transportation at the TU Center; they will not be allowed on the buses. Upon your departure from campus / arrival at the TU Center, YOU must have your Cap, Gown, and Hood – there is NO Bookstore for any last minute purchases. Please ensure you have also eaten breakfast Sunday morning – it is important to be nourished and hydrated; you do not want to feel ill on your big day! Following the ceremony, buses will be available for a return to campus, if you desire. Siena and TU Center staff members will direct you to the buses.
If YOU arrive AFTER the Procession or during the Ceremony, you will not be allowed to enter the Graduate Seating Area of the arena, without permission of the Marshals and Arena Floor Ushers, so as not to distract from the ceremony. So, please plan on being on time. Additionally, no guests will be allowed to enter the Graduate Seating Area at any time.
Members of AKA, Class Officers, the Commencement Speaker, and Vocalist will assemble in the lobby of the TU Center Ticket Office.
Following the Recessional, you will meet with your families and friends outside on South Pearl Street, which will be cordoned off by the Albany Police, as a gathering area. Please inform your guests of the following: Graduates will recess by School onto South Pearl Street through different doors: School of Liberal Arts near the corner of South Pearl and Market Streets; School of Business in the middle of South Pearl Street, just off the TU Center Breezeway; and School of Science near the corner of South Pearl and Beaver Streets. Ushers will be present to guide your families and friends to those three locations.
We encourage each of you to review with your family members and guests the information posted at www.siena.edu/commencement, particularly regarding parking and the other Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
We hope this information will be of assistance. The Siena Community looks forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2012!
