Laptop Purchase Program

Siena has established a program to allow students, faculty, and staff to purchase a computer from Dell for their own use. The configuration was chosen to provide students with a computer that will be powerful enough to meet their computing needs for the next four years and beyond. 

The current standard configuration is a Dell Latitude E5240 notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit), Office 2010 Starter Edition, and four-year CompleteCare service from Dell.  

Important Information

• The configuration does not include antivirus software. We strongly recommend you install the free program Microsoft Security Essentials (or other antivirus) as soon as you set up your computer at home. If you have no antivirus, you cannot log on to Siena's student network.
• Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition is included.  This includes reduced functionality versions of Word and Excel and will probably be adequate for most students. However, Microsoft offers Office Professional Academic to students, with full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and OneNote for $79.95. If you think you need the extra functions, this is the least espensive way to get them. (Not available for the Mac).
• You must  use the "Go to Dell Computer" link below to get special pricing on the system.  You will not get the pricing by calling Dell directly.
• Apple also offers computer discounts to students on their Education Web Page. Note: prices do not include Office 2008 for the Mac.  Repair and support is only covered for a limited time.
• Whatever computer you buy, it is strongly recommended you purchase an extended warranty. Make sure the warranty includes covereage for accidental damage.

Important! --DO NOT ship the computer to a Siena College Address.

Note: The computer does not come with a network cable, which is required for FRANet.  You can purchase the cable at the campus bookstore or any retailer that sells computer accessories.
