Windows Manual Update InstructionsEveryone needs to update Windows and Internet Explorer in order to keep them current and to prevent security breaches that may cause your system to crash. Microsoft makes this simple with Windows Update. Note: Many computers are set up to automatically update Windows as necessary. To check see Windows Automatic Update Instructions. To update your computer, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If this is the first time you visited, the page will check your computer for the updater software.
There will then be a warning screen. Click on Yes.
The software will be installed and you will go to the welcome screen. (If the software has already been installed, you will go directly to this screen.)
Click on "Scan for updates." The scan will take a few minutes. When it is done, the screen will display.
Click on "Review and install updates." You will see a list of updates.
You should install any updates it lists as critical. Click on "Install Now" to begin the process. The following window will display.
This will go through the process of downloading and installing the software. When it is complete, you will be asked to restart the computer. Do this. When the restart is complete, your computer will be protected. Be sure to go to the site every few weeks to find new updates to install. |
