New Academic Opportunities
In October of 2010, the Siena College Board of Trustees adopted The Strategic Plan 2011-2015 - Living Our Tradition. This plan will invest significant resources to create pervasive opportunities for students and faculty to engage in challenging and collaborative interactions. Siena's new plan, which will be implemented fall 2011, provides:
The First-Year Seminar
- An academically rigorous course which provides our first-year students with an introduction to the intellectual life of the College and our unique Catholic/Franciscan heritage. Beginning in the fall of 2011, the FYS will introduce our faculty of scholars and mentors to our freshmen. The College will leverage the expertise of our talented faculty members and raise the bar academically, while helping students navigate the challenges of the first year.
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity
- The Center will offer and support collaborative opportunities for undergraduate research and scholarship. The Center, networked with the National Council on Undergraduate Research, will provide avenues for grant activity and prestigious scholarships. These experiences will enable Siena students to be more competitive both in graduate school and in their professional lives.
Enhancement of Experiential Learning and Career Preparation
- The Career Center will become a crossroad connecting our students' academic and intellectual development with their personal and professional development. The Center will make connections through the First Year Seminar and serve as a centralized resource for internships, externships and mentorship programs. Opportunities for our students will be expanded by outreach to the community and to our alumni network. The Career Center will continue to serve its traditional mission by connecting our students with careers, graduate school and service opportunities.
