Turning off your firewall

In order to connect with FRANet, you may have to temporarily turn off your firewall software. 

Note: Siena has a firewall between the network and the Internet. In addition, Windows has a built-in firewall that does not cause connection problems. However, these only protect from incoming connections. Firewall software lets you know when an outgoing connection from new software is started, which can be the sign of a virus or spyware.

Different firewalls have different instructions.

McAfee

• Right click on the McAfee icon on your system tray, near the clock on the taskbar.
• Click on "Exit."
• You will be asked if you're sure.  Click on "Yes."

The firewall will be off.  Once you have completed registration, restart your computer so that the firewall is operating again.

Norton Internet Security

• Right click on the "Norton Internet Security" globe icon (near the clock).
• Click on "Open Norton Internet Security."
• Click on "Personal Firewall."
• Click on "Turn Off."
• Click on the dropdown menu to select the amount of time the firewall is to be turned off.
• Click "OK."
• Click on "Close" button.

You will have to go through this process to turn it on again.
