About the Siena Opera Club
The Siena Opera Club is the largest private opera club in the nation not affiliated with a single opera house. Founded by award-winning Professor Peter Haley in 1975, the Siena Opera Club is now a membership organization of well over 400 participants from every walk of life. We also have an active educational outreach program, sponsoring the LishaKill Middle School Opera Club and students from six major colleges and universities in the area, as well as students from local voice sudios. We meet for monthly seminars on operatic topics during the season with lectures and presentations by Dr. Joseph Schmee of Union College, Professor Anne Turner of Skidmore College, and Professor Peter Haley of Siena College. Regular domestic trips (see the schedule page) include those to the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Saratoga (formerly Lake George Opera), Bard College, Tanglewood, and the Mahaiwe Center. International trips are also scheduled each year and we have been to opera houses in Prague, Vienna, Paris, Rome, and Wexford to name only a few. All tours are escorted and generally thousands of dollars less than major tour companies. (For example, our annual trip to Santa Fe Opera is $1,000 less than Act I Tours.; Act I is for for 6 days without air, we go for 8 days. We include air, 5 dinners, all breakfasts and tours. Act I includes none of these at $1,000 more. Other tour companies are similar).
With kindest regards and best wishes!
