Dean of the School of Science

Siena College invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Science. The position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the School of Science while working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and staff. The Dean will work closely with the VPAA and the President’s Cabinet to further the mission and vision of Siena College. The School of Science enrolls approximately 650 undergraduate students in the departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy. Interdisciplinary programs and certificates are offered in collaboration with the Schools of Business and Liberal Arts. The School of Science is experiencing a significant increase in grant-funded activity with a focus on undergraduate research, and maintains an ongoing commitment to teaching. The Dean ensures the academic integrity of all programs; encourages excellence in teaching; fosters research and grant-seeking; stewards the fiscal well-being of the School of Science; and works with both the Admissions Office and the Development Office to represent the School to prospective families, to potential donors, and to officials of government, business, and the non-profit sector.

The successful candidate will be expected to have: a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline; a record of teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor; significant administrative experience; successful undergraduate teaching experience; success in sponsored research and external funding; strong skills in collaborative leadership and communication; a commitment to undergraduate science education within a liberal arts environment.

Siena is a coeducational, independent, liberal arts college in the Franciscan and Catholic tradition, located in New York’s capital district. The college is in close proximity to other higher education institutions and scientific research facilities, as well as cultural institutions and governmental agencies. Siena enrolls approximately 3,200 students, with one Masters program in Accounting.
