Counseling assists HEOP students with the academic, social and personal transition to college...
Counseling services are provided by the HEOP professional staff on an individual or group basis to assist students with any problems that could interfere with academic achievement and success. Counseling is required on a weekly basis for HEOP freshmen and new transfer students. HEOP sophomores meet with their counselor every other week. HEOP juniors and seniors meet at least monthly with their counselor to discuss post-graduate plans. HEOP students receive the following types of counseling:
- Academic: Your HEOP Counselor will assist you in selecting your academic major and planning your course schedule. You will also meet with your assigned academic advisor as all Siena College students do.
- Personal: Adjustment to college life often presents many new challenges for HEOP students. Counseling helps you develop your self-confidence and a positive attitude about your college experience. Students may also be referred to the College's Center for Counseling and Student Development.
- Career: Students are often undecided about what to do after graduation. Your HEOP Counselor will assist you in making career choices. Career counseling will help you in selecting the necessary courses to prepare you for employment or post-graduate study. Your HEOP counselor may also refer you to other resources on campus such as our Career Center.
