Course Description:
The Living Learning Serving Community course is an integrated student learning experience designated to educate students in how to advance social justice and equality in support of the College's Franciscan Mission. The course will involve social justice themed topics such as non-violence and social action, service with the poor and marginalized, and anti-oppression work through a unique faculty-enhanced residential program. The course aims to provide comprehensive experience of Franciscan community. This 3-credit experience will include a 1-hour seminar in the fall semester (1 credit) and a 1-hour seminar and a 40-hour service component in the spring semester (2 credits). The course will be team taught by Fr. Dennis Tamburello (Religious Studies), Dr. Shannon O'Neill (Peace Studies)
Residency: Members selected for participation in the Living Learning Serving Community will be housed in the New Residence Hall for the academic year. Students accepted to participate in the community will be administratively assigned a room and will NOT participate in the housing selection process. Participation in the Living Learning Serving Community is required for the entire 2011-2012 academic year.
