Hines Hall

Welcome to Hines Hall, the original home of Siena's Friars.  Hines Hall is currently home to approximately 280 first-year and sophomore students, living in double, triple, and quad-style rooms. Hines Hall is the original campus friary, and is named for Fr. Hugh Hines, who was the seventh president of Siena College from 1976 to 1989.  Hines Hall also houses the Department of Information Technology Systems (ITS), faculty offices, and the Siena Research Institute.

Hines Hall Amenities:

• 4 lounge areas, including a very large lounge on the 5th floor with a flat screen TV and a DVD player
• Vending machines available on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th floors
• Laundry room on the 1st floor with 8 washers and 9 dryers
• Access to two 24-hour computer labs

Hines Hall Rooms:

All rooms come furnished and/or equipped with the following:

• 1 Bed per student
• 1 Desk per student
• 1 Dresser per student
• 1 Closet (either built-in or standing wardrobe closet)
• 1 Chair per student
• Cable TV jack (Basic cable is included as part of tuition, room, and board fees)
• Ethernet connection for each student
• Wireless Internet Access

Hines Hall Staff:

Hines Hall is staffed by a live-in professional Residence Director who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Hines Hall, including maintenance and facilities concerns, mediating conflicts between students, supervision of paraprofessional Resident Assistant staff, adjudicating violations of the Siena College student code of conduct, and many other responsibilities.  The Residence Director of Hines Hall is currently Ms. Katie Lemperle.  Katie  is currently in her second year working at Siena College.

Each Residence Hall (except for the Townhouses and Hennepin) also houses a Friar-in-Residence.  Franciscan Friars model Franciscan ideals, recognize the goodness and value of each person, and serve as a resource for students and any concerns they might have.

Also working in Hines Hall are 9 Resident Assistants, who are student-leaders living on each floor and wing of the residence hall. RAs serve as peer mentors and role models for the residents of the building.  RAs go through an in-depth training every August and January to provide them with the skills necessary to ensure all residents of Hines Hall feel welcomed and safe in the residence hall.

The Hines Hall Community

RAs plan social, academic, spiritual, diversity, wellness, and service  programs for the residents of the building to help get them involved in the Siena Community and develop their skills as students and leaders on campus.  Each RA hosts at least 4 programs a semester, so in Hines Hall alone that is 36 chances a semester to become involved, meet your peers, and learn new skills!  Some previous RA programs have included a Zumba sessions, bead for life (fair trade) parties, intramural football teams, video game tournaments, and hall dinners.
