Knowledge, skills and experience in non-violent conflict resolution, peace-related research, intercultural understanding, local organizing and lobbying for social justice are qualities that distinguish those who lead in the advocacy and practice of global peace.

The Peace Studies program at Siena takes a multidisciplinary scholarly and practical approach to study conflict and social issues from a variety of academic viewpoints to better understand:
  • The origins, causes and justifications of war
  • Systems of state, group and interpersonal violence
  • Global environmental concerns
  • Intercultural issues
  • Non-violent alternatives to injustice, violence and war
  • The value of human dignity

Students are placed for one semester with significant private, governmental and community agencies that provide them with real-world experience on projects that make them attractive to future employers. In addition, opportunities exist for a Washington Semester, participation in the Harvard Model United Nations, projects, lectures, workshops and activities in cooperation with numerous campus, community and activist groups.

Students in almost any major may purse a Peace Studies minor or certificate.
