Globalization Studies at Siena

Connecting with others in a shrinking world

Minor offered

Whoever first said, “It’s a small world” probably never realized how accurate that statement would become. With global trade, politics, social networking, legal issues, innovation, economic development and more, the boundaries among nations have been blended by international relations.

Siena’s globalization minor recognizes that whatever any of us does affects others around the world, and that the choices made by people in other countries affect our lives as well. Through the lens of our Franciscan tradition, we also approach globalization in how it relates to human society and creation, and in our responsibility to others, especially the poor and marginalized.

Globalization studies enables students to discover their connection to the rest of the world by understanding:
  • Twenty-first century positive and negative connections among the people of the world
  • Our community’s connections to people in other lands
  • How organizations and governments manage these connections
  • How everyone benefits from positive and negative decisions

Through the Center for Globalization Studies, Siena students have:
  • A catalyst for campus and community discussion
  • A forum for discussing international experiences and scholarship on globalization
  • Access to knowledgeable speakers on a variety of globalization topics
  • A contemporary context that complements career pursuits in virtually all of Siena’s academic disciplines
  • Skills to meet the challenges of promoting a more just world
