The value of developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for literature, critical and creative thinking, and expression is well recognized as a solid foundation for many professions.
Students in the English major and minor acquire essential vocabulary and familiarity with American and English literary history, and a variety of approaches to literature.
They also take courses in advanced writing, oral communication, creative and journalistic writing, and inductive and deductive reasoning that further help them develop thoughtful self-expression. Paired with a complementary minor in many other disciplines, or as a complementary minor for another major, English can enhance one’s opportunities for careers in:
