New Student Move-in Information

Welcom Picture

Welcome and Greetings from the Office of Residential Life!  Move-in Day for new first year students and transfers will occur on Thursday, September 2, 2010.  In order to ensure a smooth check-in for all students and their families, please review the information on this page as well as the mailing that all new residential students will receive. If you have any questions about the move-in day process, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 518-783-2919 or email us at housing@siena.edu.

Check-in/Arrival Times:

Residential Life will establish specific move-in tmes based upon the building and room they are assigned for the fall 2010 semester.  This is done to minimize long waits upon check-in.  Assignments will be mailed home and published on this site in August 2010.

Can I arrive before my assigned check-in time?

In order to order for check-in to proceed smoothly, it is important for all students to arrive during their assigned time period.  Should you arrive early, Public Safety personnel will direct you to a waiting area in the North Parking Lot until your designated check-in time.  Once your check-in time arrives, you may move your car to the your respective unloading zone via the traffic pattern outlined on the map described below.

As the college accommodates the arrival of over 800 students, families, and vehicles - the cooperation and understanding of everyone will guarantee an efficient and pleasant experience for all.

Arrival at Campus:

In the packet of information mailed home, will be a MAP and CAR TAG color coded based upon your assigned move-in time.  This map will illustrate the exact route you should enter campus and where vehicles will be staged by members of our Public Safety staff.  Once at the staging area, please place your color coded CAR TAG on your dashboard to help our Public Safety personnel direct you to your assigned building and unloading zone.  Cars will be released to the unloading zones when space becomes available.  No cars will be permitted to the residence halls without first going to their designated staging area.  If you misplace your MAP or CAR TAG between now and move-in day, please contact Residential Life and we will mail you new ones.

Arrival at my residence hall:

When you arrive at your hall there will be a designated unloading area.

  • Unload all of your belongings to the curb area (bring a tarp in case of rain!)
  • A driver MUST remain with the vehicle during the unloading process.  Once your car has been unpacked, the driver must immediately move to the identified parking areas.  Unattended cars in an unloading zone will be towed from campus at the owner's expense.
  • STUDENTS: While your car is being unpacked, please proceed to your Residence Hall to receive your keys and welcome packet

Upperclass students, staff, and administrators (aptly called SAINTS) will be available for moving assistance.  In your move-in day packets are color coded labels (based upon your arrival time), that should be placed on all of your boxes and belongings.  Please clearly write your name and specific room number on these labels so that the SAINTS can deliver them to the correct room.  While the SAINTS will be of great assistance, it is strongly encouraged for families to bring a hand truck to assist with moving larger items and a tarp in the event of inclement weather.

After check-in:

Students and families are free to set up rooms, further explore campus, or visit offices for individual purposes.

The college will have all offices open on a to be determined schedule, however the following offices will have tables set up in the Sarazen Student Union for families convenience:
