Film – Pray the Devil Back to Hell
Screening of PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL Pray the Devil Back to Hell Thousands of women – ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim – came together to pray for peace and then staged a silent protest outside of the Presidential Palace. Armed with only their white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they took on the warlords and nonviolently forced a resolution during the stalled peace talks. The film premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival where it won the award for Best Documentary. 7pm RB202.

Her only neighbor for miles is Astrid, a reclusive octogenarian. Is there slavery in your chocolate? Want to try some great fair trade chocolate and learn how to really taste chocolate? Like fine wine, many things affect the final product: the blend of cacao beans, the percentage of cacao, the region where the beans were grown, as well as the timing and manner of the roasting and drying processes. Sign up for the Bowman Committees (Non-Violence, Global Concerns, Health and Wellness). Sign a petition to protest the use of child slavery by Hershey and Nestle. 3:30-6:30pm in the Quad. The US Department of State estimates that more than 109,000 children in Cote d’Ivoire’s cocoa industry work under “the worst forms of child labor,” and that some 10,000 are victims of human trafficking or enslavement. Recently, an Interpol-led operation conducted by the Cote d'Ivoire police resulted in the rescue of more than 50 children and the arrest of at least eight individuals for the illegal recruitment of children.

Monday Oct. 12th - Veronica Leyva—Juarez: Drugs, Militarization, Maquiladoras and Mass Murder of Women— Leyva is a grassroots organizer in Juarez, Mexico. She spent 10 years working in maquiladoras, and has been organizing in her community for 15 years conducting workshops on worker's and women's rights. She has also been involved with the struggle for justice for the victims of the femicides in Ciudad Juarez. 7pm in SSU 243. (Co-sponsor with OMA and Plassman Hall Staff)
