In Case of Emergency Dial 911
Some Public Safety Background InformationThe Department of Public Safety, located in the Maintenance Building on the north end of the College campus, provides a wide range of services designed to meet the needs of the College community. The college public safety personnel is composed of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs/Director of Public Safety, the Associate Director of Public Safety, office staff , dispatchers, fifteen full-time officers, as well as several part-time officers and one full-time Safety Officer. Two of these officers are New York State certified Crime Prevention Officers. These men and women are private security officers. They are instructed in the procedures for making a citizen's arrest when necessary, and work closely with the Town of Colonie Police Department and the New York State Police. They are trained in New York State Penal Law and in Criminal Procedure Law. In addition, the officers receive training in emergency procedures, first aid, and CPR. The security force, which is unarmed, conducts foot and vehicular patrols of the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Public Safety is charged by the College administration with enforcing College policies and regulations and with cooperating with State and Municipal authorities. When special events are held on campus and circumstances dictate, additional security is added through the use of off-duty Town of Colonie police officers. The Safety Officer inspects all campus buildings on a regular basis for fire and health hazards.
