Policies and Procedures

Policy Statement

The major goal of the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities is to act as a facilitator of services for qualified students with disabilities as they pursue their goal of graduation.

  • The Office will coordinate the reasonable accommodations that each individual student with a disability is entitled to under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.  These accommodations will only be granted to students who have registered and provided acceptable documentation of their disability to the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.
  • Academic accommodations that students receive in class will not give them a competitive advantage over their peers, but these accommodations will aim to neutralize any competitive disadvantage that their disability may cause.  It is the philosophy of this Office that the individual is a student first, and that his/her disability is secondary.  It is important that students with disabilities act as independently as possible.  Our Office provides assistance for students with disabilities as they transition from high school to college and from college to the community.

It is the decision of the student whether or not to disclose his/her disability to the Office.  However, it is suggested that students register with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities upon acceptance to the College.  Although a student may choose to register with the Office at any point, accommodations are not retroactive.  The College reserves the right to modify this policy at any time with or without advance notice.

Privacy Statement

All documentation and information obtained by The Office of Services for Students with Disabilities during the registration process is considered private.  As part of the registration process, students are required to complete a release form detailing authorization for information release.
