Most Illustrious and Excellent Signore.
Cavaliere Negri, who will visit Your Excellency on my behalf, will express to you my greatest desire to see you in this house, which is of the Imperial Majesty and also of Your Excellency. Therefore I adamantly beg you to want to take possession of the house and to do me this favor for which I will remain truly in your debt; as I will be if you will happily receive all the comforts that can be provided in my state, availing yourself of all my possessions as though they were your own. By the grace of God, I have returned from Rome in time to be able to see and enjoy Your Excellency here, as I greatly desired and do desire; therefore, I beg of you once again to grant me this that makes me content. Since the very same cavaliere will supplement those things that I could in addition tell you, placing my trust in him, I remain to wish Your Excellency that which you yourself desire.
From Mantua, 13 January 1592
