Mission Statement

The Writing Center at Siena College provides free one-on-one assistance with written communication to all members of the Siena community: students, faculty, and staff. The Writing Center consultants work with writers from all levels of experience, ability, and expertise and are capable of reading and responding to all types of written texts. Writing Center consultations complement classroom study, for consultants engage writers in critical and reflective thinking and exchanges about their writing, which presents opportunities for students to strengthen their written and oral communication skills within an alternate learning community. The staff at the Writing Center also strives to help writers develop their ability to formulate "reasoned and informed judgments" as they work to construct texts for each unique rhetorical context.

Our main goal is to help writers become more self-reflective and self-sufficient in terms of their own writing practices, which generates and sustains "better writers" rather than "better writing". The staff at the Writing Center responds to writers and their writing in respectful and knowledgeable ways and facilitates intellectual and emotional development and support in a professional, yet compassionate learning environment.
