
“Experiencing the American Revolution”
A free workshop sponsored by Siena College's Center for Revolutionary Studies and Saratoga National Historical Park
The 2009 Workshop in Revolutionary Era Studies is an interactive workshop for teachers, instructional aides and assistants. This 30-hour workshop will expand teachers’ knowledge of early America, including literature, material culture, music and song.
Lectures are open to the public.
July 31-- The history immersion experience at Saratoga Battlfield, a part of the Teacher's Workshop in Revolutionary Era Studies, has been postponed due to inclement weather. Participants will be contacted by email with an updated schedule early next week.
Continuing Education Credits:
The workshop adheres to the New York State Education Department’s standards for continuing professional development required of educators, and the workshop’s focus on early American culture directly addresses the New York State Social Studies Initiative’s Learning Standard 1, “History of the United States and New York.” Participants who complete all 30 hours in professional development instruction will receive 30 continuing education hours for submission to BOCES.

- The War for Independence: Insights on America’s Material Culture from the Archeology of Albany
- New York’s Revolution and “Favorite Airs": Music in the Age of the American Revolution
History Immersion at Saratoga Battlefield
Workshop participants will also take part in a unique “History Immersion” at Saratoga Battlefield. The overnight event led by National Park Service Rangers invites teachers to step back in time and experience a day in the life of a soldier or camp follower at Saratoga Battlefield in 1777. Park Rangers and teachers will share strategies for incorporating this type of active, participatory, object based instruction in their classrooms.
