Alumni Achievements

Graduates of Siena College who have achieved success in the health professions field include: 

Joyce Barlin ’02, graduated first in her class from Albany Medical College Class of 2006.  Joyce received 11 distinguished awards at graduation and is currently a resident at Johns Hopkins University.

Michael Ganey ’96 M.D. is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon serving in Kenya. He recently took on two Kenyan resident physicians and is achieving his lifelong dream…training native surgeons.

Terry Holler ’93 P.A., M.S., author and lecturer on environmental health.

Michael Cooney ’90 M.D., M.B.A., vitreoretinal surgeon in New York City and director of the Duke Center for Macular Degeneration from 2001-2005. He has authored over 40 publications and is co-inventor of the I-Vation intravitreal drug delivery implant.

Amisha Malholtra ’90 M.D., associate professor of pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson.  Travels to Africa two times a year to assist in AIDs education.

Elizabeth Higgins ’86 M.D., associate dean at Albany Medical College.

Johanna Daily ’84 MD MSc, associate professor of medicine at Albert Einstein School of Medicine.  Infectious disease trained physician who has been conducting field studies on malaria for over 10 years.

Vincent Filanova ’81 D.D.S., is an advocate for dental care for the physically and mentally challenged.  He was named a member of the House of Delegates of the American Dental Association.

Rear Admiral Paul Higgins ’80 M.D., (retired) director of health and safety for the United States Coastal Guard.

Rose Dowe Higgins ’80 M.D., National Institute of Health program scientist for child health and human development. Author of numerous articles on newborn health issues.

Samuel Bosco ’78 M.D., named 2003 Physician of the Year by the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  He is director of emergency medicine at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
