John Blanchard has been a member of the philosophy faculty at Siena College since Spring 2003. He has taught courses in ethics, early modern philosophy, reality, nature, knowledge, and ancient Greek philosophy, in addition to the introductory course, and he serves as the advisor to Phi Sigma Tau, the International Honor Society for Philosophy. Dr. Blanchard received his Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research in 2001, and he specializes in ancient philosophy. His current research interests involve Plato, Aristotle, and the pre-Socratic thinkers, and their reception by Nietzsche, Heidegger, and more recent philosophers. He is also quite interested in Michael Pollan and food, his similarities to Heidegger’s metaphysics of the thing, and in many questions of political philosophy. Dr. Blanchard also serves on the city of Schenectady's Historic District Commission.
