College Receives Scholarship from Capital District Radio AssociationWednesday, December 09, 2009
Members of the Capital District Radio Association board presented Siena College President, Fr. Kevin Mullen, O.F.M., Ph.D. with a ceremonial check for $5,000 Tuesday, marking the creation of an annual scholarship earmarked for students pursuing careers in radio broadcasting. The CDRA Scholarship gives $1,000 per year to a student from the Capital Region who is taking courses in the College’s Broadcast and Society minor. The minor includes courses in radio and television reporting, production, performance and ethics.
“The CDRA is very pleased to be able to assist a Siena College student pursue a career in the radio industry. If this helps them financially, then that’s why we established it,” said Capital District Radio Association President and Clear Channel Radio Albany Vice President and Market Manager, Kristen Delaney.
As part of the scholarship, the recipient will also be able to pursue an internship opportunity at CDRA affiliated stations.
“This is a great expression of support from the CDRA to encourage our local students to pursue careers in electronic media here in the Capital District. It gives them the sense that the professional world is supporting what we do here at Siena.” said School of Liberal Arts Dean, Ralph Blasting, Ph.D.
The Capital District Radio Association promotes and encourages the use of radio as an advertising medium. It also promotes community programs and groups that may benefit from the industry, in the Capital Region, which includes Albany, Essex, Fulton, Green, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Washington and Warren counties.
