Certification Requirements

The following requirements must be met before a student is accepted into the Teacher Certification Program:

Siena College Undergraduates

minimum overall GPA of at least 2.75 (This varies by department)

  1. Successful completion of EDU 210, 260, 261 and 365[minimum GPA of 3.0 in education]
  2. Submission of completed application form
  3. Endorsement by the subject matter department (Required GPA varies)
  4. Submission of an acceptable writing portfolio
  5. Endorsement by the Department of Education
  6. Review and acceptance by the Education Professions Committee

Returning Students

minimum overall GPA of at least 2.75 (This varies by department)

  1. Successful completion of EDU 210, 260, 261 and 365 [minimum GPA of 3.0 in education]
  2. Submission of completed application form
  3. Endorsement by the subject matter department after a review of transcripts
  4. Application for Admission as a Special Student and $25 fee submitted to the Education Department Chair
  5. Submission of an acceptable writing portfolio
  6. 2-3 letters of recommendation from former professors and/or employers
  7. Endorsement by the Department of Education
  8. Interview with and acceptance by the Education Professions Committee.

ALL WRITTEN MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE EDUCTION DEPARTMENT CHAIR ONE YEAR PRIOR TO THE START OF STUDENT TEACHING (BEFORE OCTOBER 1 FOR THE FOLLOWING FALL SEMESTER AND BEFORE FEBRUARY 1 FOR THE FOLLOWING SPRING SEMESTER).

STUDENTS WHO WITHDRAW FROM THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM OR WHO POSTPONE THEIR PROFESSIONAL SEMESTER WILL BE REQUIRED TO REAPPLY.
