American Studies

In American Studies, students begin their foundation in required courses in American History and Literature, and then are free to choose from a wide variety of courses in American political science, art, religion, sociology, enviornmental studies, film, more history, more literature and more disciplines.  Minors take the American Studies Proseminar in the spring of their junior year.  Majors take both the American Studies Proseminar, and follow it with the American Studies Thesis semester.  The program is flexible for students wishing to go abroad or student teach.  Siena American Studies graduates find career in a variety of fields, including business, law, public history, and education (see Alumni Notes).  American Studies provides an excellent foundation for those interested in secondary education, but fulfilling all the requirements of American Studies and Education may take more than four semesters (it has been done in four).
