Fr. James F. Toal, O.F.M.
Father James F. Toal, O.F.M., a native of Astoria, N.Y., made profession in the Franciscan Order in 1955, solemn profession in 1974 and was ordained to the priesthood on December 6, 1975. He holds a Ph.D. from Fordham University and was Vice President of Siena College from 1997-2008. His educational background includes degrees in literature from St. Francis College, St. John's University, and studies at Colgate University, and SUNY at Plattsburgh. His theological studies are from the Boston Theological Institute, Harvard Divinity, and Pope John XXIII Institute.
Fr. Jim brought a wealth of administrative experience to Siena College. He had experience in secondary school serving as Principal of St. Francis Preparatory in New York City for seven years, was Executive Vice President of St. Bonaventure University for seven years, and was President of Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois for fourteen years. In addition, Jim was a tenured professor at St. Bonaventure University and Quincy University and is permanently certified in New York State as a District Superintendent, District Administrator and Supervisor and building Principal.
Jim was on the founding board of Convocom which is responsible for educational television in the state of Illinois. He spent many years as Chair of accrediting teams for the North Central Association, was a member of accrediting teams for the Middle States Association, and is a member of the Association of Governing Boards, the American Association of Higher Education, the American Association of University Professors, and the Society of College & University Planning.
He enjoys celebrating parish Mass and preaching. Favorite pastime: directing Siena's sports program and following all collegiate sports, listening to classical music, reading non-fiction, and upland bird hunting.
Fr. Jim is now the guardian of our Franciscan community in St. Petersburg, FL.
